Bronies: A Pony is a Man’s Best Friend

Fanboys come in the all shapes an sizes. On the latest podcast we discussed the concept of bronies. For those who are not familiar with bronies, they are adult males who are fans of the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Thirty two year old Luke Allen talked to Wired magazine about his obsession with My Little Pony.
“First we can’t believe this show is so good, then we can’t believe we’ve become fans for life, then we can’t believe we’re walking down the pink aisle at Toys R Us or asking for the girl’s toy in our Happy Meal,” Allen said in an e-mail to Wired.com. “Then we can’t believe our friends haven’t seen it yet, then we can’t believe they’re becoming bronies too.” Videos and more after the jump.

Bronies have gone so far as to create fan trailers like the Watchponies trailer below:

It all seems a bit creepy if you ask me. One of the most interesting phenomena to come out of this is the identification of a character named Derpy Hooves. According to the wiki page for Derpy Hooves her origin is as follows;
“Alert viewers noticed a googly-eyed Pegasus in the series’ first episode, standing in the crowd in Twilight Sparkle’s welcoming party. After the image was captured and posted on 4chan’s comics and cartoons board /co/, fans began speculating of the nature of this odd pony.[1] The name she was given, Derpy Hooves, is derived from the slang term “derp”, which is associated with someone behaving in a silly manner and is usually connected with crossed eyes.”
Derpy Hooves entered the canon of My Little Pony on January 21st of 2012 with the episode The Last Roundup. All you bronies are probably salivating as I post this video below.
