Hurt Locker and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter co-star, Anthony Mackie might just be putting on the wings in Marvel Studios‘ Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of the hit comedy Community, will be helming the sequel starring Chris Evans. No official plot has been released, but the Winter Soldier is one of the most popular Captain America story arcs.
The Winter Soldier arc involves Captain America’s close friend Bucky and what happened to him after he was presumed dead. The rebirth of the Bucky character played very well in the comics and the announcement of the storyline at San Diego Comic Con went over very well.
Anthony Mackie’s potential role of The Falcon, aka Sam Wilson, was created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan. He was the first African American mainstream superhero and is a fan favorite to this day. He is Captain America’s best friend and confidant. The Falcon has cybernetic wings and in early incarnations he could talk to birds (please don’t go with this interpretation. No KoKo B Ware outfit please!) Having Sam Wilson apart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a must if Captain America, or more importantly, the character of Steve Rogers is to be truly explored. Either way, Mackie is a fantastic actor especially in The Hurt Locker, and would be a real catch for Marvel Studios.
