First trailer for The Dark Knight Returns: Part 1

Here is the first trailer for the animated version of DC’s The Dark Knight Returns. This is by far the most celebrated story arcs in DC’s history. Frank Miller did an extraordinary job with the comic. It deals with Bruce Wayne no longer being Batman for 10 years and what happens to Gotham in his absence. He is a much older man and not as quick and powerful as he once was. After Gotham City is overtaken by a gang who call themselves The Mutants, Bruce is once again forced to put on the suit and become the Dark Knight one more time. With Commissioner Gordon retiring and the city under siege the stakes have never been higher for both Bruce Wayne and The Batman.

If you haven’t read the original comic do yourself a favor and pick it up. Along with Watchmen it is considered one of the largest factors in the turning point of comics from campy nonsens (which we still love) to serious stories that have help drive comics into the mainstream, especially in the movie industry. Tell us what you think in the comments.

I realize I am a grumpy old comic book curmudgeon. That I know, I do love the DC animated films and TV series, The JLA animated serious I believe was one of the best things to come out of DC in any format in Years. How ever I do wish they had left Frank Millers classic alone. So much of this amazing books beauty is in whats in the pauses between each panels on the page, this animated version seems to take away the power of the reader to pace the story, I always read it like a classic 30′s gangster film. I do admit that when I was younger and bought each issue as it was published my friends and I could not wait to read issue on the bus ride home then discuss them including our dream movie casting (we all agreed Clint Eastwood as Batman and David Bowie as the Joker) but the older and grumpier I get the more thankful I am that never got made. Yup, the grumpy old man in me just feels some some things should be left in their classic format. Now git off my lawn!
