In 2004 we were treated to the reboot of The Punisher starring Thomas Jane. In short, it sucked…bad. The feel of the main character was all wrong, the story was flat and boring, and the villain was John Travolta. Sadly, the follow up starring Ray Stevenson was no better, actually it was worse. However, I did find that Stevenson played the Punisher closer to what we see in the comics than Thomas Jane. Anyway, this past weekend at San Diego Comic Con fans were given a first peak at a unofficial short film called Dirty Laundry. With a running time of 10 minutes Jane reprises his role as the Punisher.
Ultimately, I thought the short film was ok, nothing to go ape over. However, I do want to point out that the Punisher is a horrible person and here’s why! He sure takes his time helping these people. A woman presumably gets raped and a kid almost gets killed. In the comics, the Punisher wouldn’t waste anytime killing these people to save innocents from being hurt. He is a psychopath but not a lackadaisical psychopath. In my opinion, Thomas Jane and the creators got the Punisher wrong again! This time they just ramped up the violence a la Punisher: Warzone. Why is this character so hard to do right?
