Yes you read that title right. Marvel has now been given the green light to make a SHIELD TV show. Even better Joss Whedon will co-write and may even direct. The show will be based on the organization made famous this year in The Avengers. SHIELD (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement Logistics Division) is a world wide organization based on handling high level threats across the globe. Their duties now include the handling of extraterrestrial foes and assembling Earth’s heroes to defend it. Shield will be, as we mentioned, co-written by Joss Whedon and his brother Jed Whedon and  Maurissa Tancharoen. Both Whedons, Tancharoen, Jeffery Bell, and Jeph Loeb will produce. The work on the show is to start immediately! No word yet on air date. My guess is late 2013.

The impact of having a SHIELD movie is tremendous for the ever expanding Marvel universe. There is no word on whether Nick Fury or Maria Hill will make appearances. My guess is they will be mentioned but not show. A nice way to deal with them is to concentrate on the Triskelion instead of the Hellicarrier and just have SHIELD fight off teams like AIM, who will be in Iron Man 3, or even Hydra. I look forward to the serious spy versus spy television action! More information as it becomes available! I don’t know about you but I am officially psyched!
