Looks like the disaster that was the potential script for WB’s upcoming Justice League movie might never see the light of day. Badass Digest is reporting from multiple sources inside WB that Will Beall’s script was seen as unsatisfactory.
Director James Mangold sat down with MTV.com to discuss the tone of his upcoming comic book action flick, The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman. The movie takes place most of the time in a Japanese setting, and Mangold addresses the mix of eastern and western influences:
My annoyance with Warner Bros. about their inability to work in one cohesive and reasonable direction is well known. If you listen to any myriad of episodes of the podcast you might hear me rant specifically about the lack of a Wonder Woman movie, or better yet the absurd existence of a Lobo movie. Anyway, it seems that Warner Bros. is desperately trying to match what Disney/Marvel were able to accomplish this year.
Stating that comic book movies (CBMs) are a passing fad and will soon begin falling in popularity until they are no longer relevant seems to have become trendy lately. This is usually a statement thrown around by hyper-adults who think comic books are a childish habit and have no place in the ‘grown up’ art scene that is cinema.
Earlier this week, Mathew Fox (Lost, Speed Racer) went on record in an interview with Collider to say that comic book movies will be “exhausted pretty soon.”
With the massive success of The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises comic book movies are the hottest thing in Hollywood right now. For this reason movie studios are very likely to put more effort into the genre films now that they see the massive potential.
New image of Cap after some sort of battle in Marvel’s upcoming summer blockbuster, The Avengers. This goes right along with a previously released image of Cap and Thor fighting off some would be alien aggressors. No official word yet as to who The Avengers will be going toe-to-toe with. However, whoever it is is in for a world of hurt. See the new image after the jump.
Unfortunate news broke late last night. Thor 2 director, Patty Jenkins has stepped away from the project. Creative differences were said to be the reason. Marvel and Jenkins stated that the separation was amicable so no bad blood. As you may know Jenkins directed 2003 drama Monster starring Charlize Theron.
I believe that Jenkins was tapped to helm the sequel due to her success with Monster, and the potential to bring a female villain like The Enchantress to light. Sad news to hear she is gone. However, Marvel is saying that she could come back and direct a future Marvel film, just not this sequel. I am very bummed about this development. I really wanted to see what Jenkins could do.
