Thor 2 loses Patty Jenkins as director!

Unfortunate news broke late last night. Thor 2 director, Patty Jenkins has stepped away from the project. Creative differences were said to be the reason. Marvel and Jenkins stated that the separation was amicable so no bad blood. As you may know Jenkins directed 2003 drama Monster starring Charlize Theron.

I believe that Jenkins was tapped to helm the sequel due to her success with Monster, and the potential to bring a female villain like The Enchantress to light. Sad news to hear she is gone. However, Marvel is saying that she could come back and direct a future Marvel film, just not this sequel. I am very bummed about this development. I really wanted to see what Jenkins could do.

Will Disney get Sci-Fi right with John Carter?

Will Disney get Sci Fi right with John Carter?

New image for the upcoming film John Carter. This looks to be a some scene where John is forced to fight or be lunch for some sort of beast. Visually this movie looks excellent. The first trailer was beautiful, but really lacked a sense of story. Hopefully this new trailer tells us a little more of what the hell is going on. John Carter arrives in theaters March of 2012.

Latest update in the world of Marvel Studios

As we all know, after The Avengers we will get more solo films from Thor, Captain America, Ant-Man, etc. So, on that note, we have some news about what direction Thor 2 will take. Officially today it has been announced that Patty Jenkins, director of Monster, will be helming the sequel. Its sad to see Kenneth Branaugh not return, as he did a great job with the first one. His ability to establish the Marvel mystical universe and really capture the Shakespearean nature of the Thor mythos was nothing short of amazing. However, where Thor truly faltered was in its deliverance (or lack thereof) of Mjolnir smashing action. Now that the ground work has been laid lets hope that Patty Jenkins comes out swinging (pun intended). I really enjoyed Monster and I think she will do a great job with Thor 2.
