Recast: X-Men

Recast: X Men

Hello all, and welcome to a brand new edition of Recast. Today we will be looking at a movie that, in my opinion, deserves credit for the emergence of comic book movies as a mainstream genre. At the time of its release, it was inescapably popular, so much so that it spawned not only two sequels, but a prequel and a spin-off/prequel.
I’m talking, of course, about Bryan Singer’s 2000 blockbuster, X-Men. I won’t insult you by rehashing the plot. If, after 13 years, you don’t remember it, go watch it again. Or go watch the prequel, X-Men: First Class. It’s essentially the same plot.

Stupid Lamb: A Twilight Saga Retrospective

Stupid Lamb: A Twilight Saga Retrospective

Occasionally, there comes a time in a person’s life where they have to do something for the sake of their passion that they never thought they would do. To work in a zoo, people with arachnophobia have to handle spiders. People who can’t stand bodily fluids, but love babies, have to bite the bullet. And people who like to write movie reviews and editorials have to watch movies they may not care for. That is why I have recently watched all of the Twilight Saga. Fair warning: This is going to be long, but read through to the end. It’s worth it. Trust me. Oh, and in case you need it:

Recast: Fantastic Four

Recast: Fantastic Four

Occasionally, one comes across a movie that is so miscast that ceases being a film, instead becoming a cautionary tale. The 2004 Fantastic Four movie, today’s Recast, is such a movie. Nearly every role in Fantastic Four should have gone to a different actor or actress. I’ve seen documentaries with better casting. Knowing that, I figured that we could do better here.

Bond. James Bond. – A Look Back at 007: Part Four of Four

Bond. James Bond. A Look Back at 007: Part Four of Four

There’s no one quite like James Bond.

For 50 years, 007 has been thrilling folks like you and I with his trademark style of action, coolness, and panache. Six different actors have filled the role of Bond over the course of 22 movies with number 23, Skyfall, releasing in just a few days. While I will happily watch any 007 outing and every one has had it’s thrilling moments, not all James Bond movies are created equal. For every Goldfinger, there’s a Moonraker to match.

In celebration of Skyfall and the Bond 50th anniversary, I have set out to separate the great flicks from the not so great. This isn’t a mere 1-22 ranking; rather I’m going to separate the movies into four different tiers. We’ll be showing off one tier per day leading up to the much-anticipated release of Skyfall on November 9.
