With 5 years separating the final Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, Sony received unabashed grief for their idea to scrap the old and reboot the universe. From every corner of the nerd-verse we heard how this was a terrible idea and was a total waste. This response was rather odd to me considering how much people loved the new Christopher Nolan Batman movies that were created after only 8 years from its previous series. The internet is an odd place that facts and rationales don’t always go over well, but I digress.
Sony has been obviously all over the news lately with their reboot of the hugely popular Spider-Man movie series. However, with the seemingly guaranteed success of the reboot comes a battery of questions as to what happens next. Sony seems to be shaping up to match Marvel’s connected movie universe with its own expanded Spidey centric universe. Previously, there was news that Avi Arad was pushing for a solo Venom movie. You can read about my opinions on that here. Now during an interview with SuperHeroHype.com, Arad made some interesting statements about other characters in the Spider-Man universe that might make for some intriguing moments going forward.
Here is the first of many future TV spots for Marc Webb’s upcoming gritty reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man. There is nothing particularly revealing or new about the footage except for one the thing. Take notice of who’s voice it is in the first bit of dialogue. Looks like Spider-Man has a certain ally by the time the fighting really gets started.
