When the full title for Thor 2 was announced at San Diego Comic Con in July there was a slight clue as to where the Asgardian would be going on his next adventure. That clue has now been completely flushed out of the darkness so to speak. Thor: The Dark World will take our hero to Svartalfheim, the home of the dark elves. It was announced some time ago that Mads Mikkelsen was to play the villain. However, due to a scheduling conflict he was forced to drop out. Now we are getting reports that Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) will be taking over for Mikkelson, and now we know for sure what role he will be playing. It seems Marvel is ready to introduce the villain Malekith the Accursed who is the leader of the dark elves and all around bad guy and pain in Thor’s ass.

Thor 2 gets an epic new writer
Thor 2 loses Patty Jenkins as director!
Unfortunate news broke late last night. Thor 2 director, Patty Jenkins has stepped away from the project. Creative differences were said to be the reason. Marvel and Jenkins stated that the separation was amicable so no bad blood. As you may know Jenkins directed 2003 drama Monster starring Charlize Theron.
I believe that Jenkins was tapped to helm the sequel due to her success with Monster, and the potential to bring a female villain like The Enchantress to light. Sad news to hear she is gone. However, Marvel is saying that she could come back and direct a future Marvel film, just not this sequel. I am very bummed about this development. I really wanted to see what Jenkins could do.
