Tech Review: Pebble Smartwatch

Tech Review: Pebble Smartwatch

Wearable tech is thought to be the next huge fad in the mobile space. One of the first darlings of this movement is the Pebble smartwatch, which was also one of the products that put Kickstarter on the map as a crowd funding service. Pebble raised over $10 million during its five weeks on Kickstarter, and I was one of the thousands of backers who supported it. Now that I’ve received it and put it through its paces for two weeks, I’m happy to say that it’s been a joy to use and has potential to be even better as it finds its way into the hands of software developers.

Visual Academy

Data visualization and Info-graphics are effective ways of communicating information through affective methods. In more colloquial terms, lookin’ at stuff makes it easier to remember. Enter Visual Academy; the goal of Visual Academy is to create a hunger for knowledge through visually representing information. It provides a very innovative way of presenting valuable information in an entertaining and fun way. Haven’t you ever wanted to know about the science of boogers or breast implants? Visual Academy provides you this information and so much more.

Connectify’s Dispatch might just be the next big thing

Connectifys Dispatch might just be the next big thing

The guys and gals over at Connectify have started a Kickstarter project that sounds potentially Earth shattering (minor hyperbole). They propose their software called Dispatch that will allow users to simultaneously connect to multiple internet connections and basically bond their speeds together. Making this possible is one more step in the right direction considering how the constant need for faster and faster connections has just become a way of life. With the introduction of such things as wireless 4G devices, people are becoming more mobile and free, and fairly unreliable, internet cafe WiFi just isn’t cutting it. However, with Dispatch, users would be able to cobble together whatever accessible internet connections they have access to and make their speed increase exponentially. Introducing The Leap…shut up and take my money

Introducing The Leap...shut up and take my moneyTake the leap…ok that was a terrible introduction, I know. Anyway, check out this new product video for The Leap. A very promising device for your Mac that allows for some motion capture capabilities. This is very reminiscent of the Microsoft Kinect. I’m not so sure I would be ready to through away my keyboard and mouse, but this would be cool for some applications and specific games. Let us know what you think in the comments.

FreedomPop shows off WiMax Iphone case

FreedomPop shows off WiMax Iphone case

So check out this slick upcoming Iphone case by the guys over at FreedomPop. The case has a built in WiMax connection which allows for some insane network speeds, as demonstrated in the video. The case will work for both Iphone 4 and 4S phones only, sorry Android nerds better luck next time. Anyway, here is the drawback: You only get 1GB of data each month via WiMax for free, $10 a gigbyte over that. So if you are unlucky enough to not have an unlimited plan this might be less of a drawback than those who do. Check out the video below.

Quick Hit: Aire, iPod/iPhone Charging for Martial Artists on the Go!

Quick Hit: Aire, iPod/iPhone Charging for Martial Artists on the Go!

Right now my iPod is fully charged and I look cool too!

Ever wanted to look like Scorpion or Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat, then this is the charging device for you. If only Billy Mays was still around to promote this thing. It could be awesome! Introducing the concept for the Aire, an iPhone/iPad charging device that allows you to charge your iPhone through the power of your own hot air. Mays could really charge some phones.

I am hardly a fashionista, but I love technology

My wardrobe rarely consists of anything above pants + shirt, but some others out there go pretty far out to look good. I can respect this behavior. Even better than that I can respect bringing technology to the forefront when it comes to just about anything. In this case, augmented reality meets window shopping. Check out the video:

New Apple patent gives clues to the future

New Apple patent gives clues to the future

Apple has just purchased a patent that would allow for 3D environments on their IOS products (i.e. – Iphone, Ipad, and Ipod touch). This would, of course, be possible without glasses much like some current phones. The idea of 3D gaming on a phone is pretty amazing. Infinity Blade in 3D? Yes, please. I look forward to seeing what Apple can do with this. Side Note: I am glad I waited and didn’t buy the Iphone 4S. Just kidding, this kind of tech will most likely be a few Iphone versions away. Either way, check out the video below for some more info from Mashable:

Shut up and Take My Money! Neverending Story Ebook Cover

Shut up and Take My Money! Neverending Story Ebook Cover
What could be more meta? Oh what the hell…”SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!”

I don’t have an ebook, but I will be damned if I might not just buy one to have this cover. If only it were made out of luck dragon skin. A Kindle, iPad, or Nook can hold thousands of books and while this does not constitute neverending, it’s a lotta reading goodness, hence the meta nature of the cover. This may be the closest thing you will ever get to a Neverending Story, however it may still be false advertising.

New Roku “stick” device coming later this year

Apparently, the latest Roku boxes are too gigantic. Roku announced today that they will release a HDMI stick that will contain the guts of your average Roku box. It will push up 1080p video with all the same features. The only down side to this is a enhanced HDMI port called MHL (Mobile High Definition Link). MHL HDMI ports allow for additional power to be sent to the plugged in device. Because this is new tech, your standard HDTV most likely won’t have it. However, this is some pretty excellent tech. I look forward to seeing how this plays out. Reports suggest it will be around $100 US. Take a look at some concept art below.
